Village children in the High Alps confront evil with goodness in a battle for the soul of a country.
The edict that all Jews must wear yellow patches to single them out for derision is cunningly thwarted by the villagers of Mittelammergau in the German Alps.
"If patches are the law, then all will wear patches," declared village leaders. "There will be patches for Jews and for Christians. For commendable characteristics and behavior. All will wear many patches."
When a furious Adolph Hitler leads Nazi storm troopers to MIttelammergau to round up the villagers for transport to Dachau, the children stand up to the madman--at the risk of their lives.
Innocently, they do not understand that they are confronting a monster.
Revised July 2012. 6,800 Words. Short Story.

This took me maybe twenty minutes to read and the message is decent. But i do not think the author read about what he was talking about. Hitler never went on those missions to such places. and spelling "Adolf Hitler" wrong is a bit very unacceptable. The nazis would never give away what happened in any camp what so ever. those children and thier families would ave died no questions asked. i consider myself an amateur expert on the topic thier were way to many mistakes for me to even give it one star. Thrre is no reasonn for speer to be there at all.Product details

Defying Hitler Short Stories by Tom Dulaney eBook Tom Dulaney Reviews
In the cause of complete disclosure, I must admit that I went to college with Tom. Little did I know of his excellent way with words and his ability to challenge our everyday concepts and assumptions. His changing from engineering to journalism in our junior year should have been a hint, but I had never read any of his fiction until last year.
I am hooked. Tom's way with words and immagery are second to none. But I must warn you, you will have some of your most cherished attitudes and prejudices challenged if you read too much Dulaney. But reading his stuff is really fun, too.
I liked it overall. It was a quick, easy read with several layers of meaning. I liked as well the fact that young readers can enjoy a little bit of history, even if the details are fictional. The fiction brings the history to life and demonstrates relevance to those who otherwise might not read about this era. I can see people of ages preteens and up reading and understanding this short story. Of particular relevance in this present world is the lesson about 'labels' and the loving labels applied by the parents to defuse the impact of the required label. Just lovely sentiments overall and nicely written.
